Brewers (5) @ Diamondbacks (6) 7/3 — Tastes Great, Less Filling
Tastes Great:
JJ Hardy–What a streak!! Another home run and a couple scorched doubles to go along with a single.
Mike Cameron–Starting to swing the bat better lately. He’s always been a slow starter, and hopefully he’s ready to heat up again.
Parra–Pitched pretty well and obviously should have gotten the win. Once slight complaint though is he managed to get his pitch count up there and had to be pulled after 6 innings. That meant the bullpen needed to be stretched out and we saw what happened.
Gagne, Stetter–Both have had their issues earlier this year, but it was nice to see them both pitch good and hopefully get back on track.
Less Filling:
Mota/Shouse/Torres–I know its kind of something you just gotta chalk up to a once in a million time and move on, but this was a disgusting loss. You have a chance to beat one of the best pitchers in the league, have a winning road trip, and rest your closer. But instead the unthinkable happens. These three combined for face seven hitters and gave up 6 hits, 1 walk, 6 runs, and got NO FRICKIN’ OUTS!!!
Brewers (8) @ Diamondbacks (6) 7/1 — Tastes Great, Less Filling
Tastes Great:
JJ Hardy–Wow, what a hot streak. Two more homers to go along with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI. Threw in a stolen base to boot.
Corey Hart–3 hits, 2 runs, 1 RBI, and 2 steals. Quite an all-around game for quite an all-around player.
The Replacements–Rivera, Kapler, and Dillon combined for 4 hits, 5 RBI’s, and a couple runs scored. Plus some good defense as well.
Defense–Some great plays made including a couple by Bill Hall, the dive and tag the bag play by Rivera, and some nice running catches in the outfield. Suppan was getting hit pretty hard so the guys had to be on their toes for sure.
Less Filling:
Jeff Suppan–Staked to a 6-1 lead early on he allowed the D-Backs to chip away.
Guillermo Mota–Yet another run allowed for our “8th inning guy”. He had a 6.48 ERA in June and didn’t start July on a good foot either.
Brewers (3) @ Diamondbacks (6) 6/30 — Tastes Great, Less Filling
Tastes Great:
JJ Hardy–3 hits yesterday, including two doubles. Unfortunately no one behind him could do anything except Fielder’s RBI single.
Less Filling:
Offense–It’s been downright offensive lately. Haven’t scored after the 6th inning in over a week. 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position last night. Braun is 0 for his last 12 or something like that and chasing every pitch thrown his way.
Dave Bush–Ah…back to reality. It was nice to dream and think he could be a solid pitcher after those last two starts, but then its back to the status quo antebellum. Giving up hard hit balls, two out RBI’s, and key walks.
The road trip–Started out pretty solid after taking 2 of 3 at Atlanta. But they’ve lost 3 of 4 since then and never hit well against Randy Johnson who they face tonight. If they lose tonight as I’d expect they’d have to win the last two games of the series to salvage a series and road trip split.
Brewers (10) vs. Diamondbacks (1) 6/4 — Tastes Great, Less Filling
Tastes Great:
Manny Parra–That’s the young lefty we were hoping for. Got in a little trouble early, but instead of crumbling like he had earlier in the year, he gutted it out and finished his outing strong. Consistency, consistency, consistency; don’t go out there and go 4 innings the next time out.
Ryan Braun–Couple hits including a triple, couple RBI’s and runs. Just continues to rake.
Corey Hart–The first inside-the-park home run since Prince’s shot in Minnesota where the outfielder lost the ball in the lights. Also had a run-scoring single earlier in the game.
Gabe Kapler–4 hits, couple runs scored, an RBI, and a great catch early in the game that saved at least one run.
Prince Fielder–He just continues to produce.
Russell Branyan–The Brewers are 9-2 since he was called up. He didn’t cause all of it, but its definetly more than a coincidence that when another lefty bat entered the lineup it started producing. I hope people don’t start thinking he is a long-term answer though.

Um…………for the first time in Tastes Great, Less Filling history we have none that deserved being placed here. Great job all around.
The Major League Baseball Amateur Draft is tomorrow beginning at 1 pm CT. I’ll be watching and will do a blog entry on the draft tomorrow.
Brewers (7) vs. Diamondsbacks (1) 6/3 — Tastes Great, Less Filling
Tastes Great:
Seth McClung–rebounded from a rough outing last time out and pitched 6 strong innings, allowing a few hits but no walks. Also picked up his first two Major League hits–off Randy Johnson no less. Seems to have cemented his spot in the rotation. Now just needs to build up the arm strength to go 7+ innings on occassion.
Ryan Braun–his towering home run sparked the once stagnant Brewers offense. Also made a nice catch in the left and threw a guy out on a very nice play at second.
Prince Fielder–Prince is heating up with the weather. 10-12 homers is a possibility this month.
JJ Hardy–He’s starting to get back to what I would expect out of him: .255-.265 batting average, ending up with 12-15 homers, 60-70 RBI, and playing solid defense.
Bullpen–Dillard and Shouse combined to go 3 innings and allowed only 1 walk with no hits. Shouse picked up the two-inning save.
Less Filling:
Bill Hall–Oh Billy. I find it hard to understand how a guy that is hitting and fielding terribly, and has been for a year and a half, can complain about being platooned. Rather than acknowledge his problems and actually correct them, he has his agent go to the media and complain about reduced playing time. I said in the off-season we should have traded him when he had value and we could have gotten rid of his salary. Now we’re stuck with a guy getting paid like an All-Star who is producing like crap. I and others shouldn’t have been surprised though; outside of two seasons he hasn’t produced on the professional level in the minors (.264 BA in minors) or the other 4 years in the majors. And then of course he goes out yesterday and ingratiates himself well to the already non-impressed crowd by striking out in his first two at-bats.
Mike Cameron–0 for 3 with 3 strikeouts and a walk. Ouch. As a total streak hitter though I’d still expect him to be at his career averages by the end of the season, plus he’s playing great defense.
Brewers (4) vs. Diamondbacks (3) 6/2 — Tastes Great, Less Filling
I am back after a one week paternity leave. As previously mentioned the wife and I welcomed the newest Brewers fan, Brett Allen Wilson, into the world on Sunday, May 25. He’s doing great; he’s a big strong boy and I’d fully expect him in a Brewers uniform by 2030:) !!
Tastes Great:
Jeff Suppan–Another strong outing by Jeff. Is this really the Milwaukee Brewers pitching staff in the last couple weeks?
The bullpen–Mota and Torres combined in a solid relief outing. I’ve defended Gagne most of the year, but it will be hard to take the job away from Torres when Gagne comes back. It seems the entire bullpen has settled down since Gagne left.
Prince Fielder–I had been giving a lot of heat before my sabbatical, but he’s really come on strong lately. 3 hits off lefties today, including the big blast to put the Brewers ahead. He also created another run when he got a hit, went to second on a wild pitch, stole third, and then scored on a sac fly.
Mike Cameron–In a bit of belated news, Cameron finally broke the strikeout streak while I was gone. He actually went 3 whole games without striking out even! Of course he just had to make up for it by striking out 14 times in the last 6 games.
Less Filling:
Corey Hart–I guess everyone will probably end up here at least once. 0fer and didn’t look good doing it.
Ryan Braun–Again, everyone will end up here at least once. He did have a hit, but looked really bad a couple times too. Sometimes its like he decides hes going to swing at pitches before the pitcher even moves. And that double play groundout in the 7th could have been very damaging but Prince bailed him out.
